    • Yes, though Mr. Rogers is talking only about the positive possibilities of growing thoughts I’m struck by how it cuts both ways. We all spend too much time cultivating weeds of the mind I think.

      • Agreed. Dorotheus of Gaza uses the analogy of a tree to illustrate the power of thoughts: When the tree is young and small, it is easy to pull out of the ground; but when it matures, it is much more difficult to uproot. A central tenet of hesychasm is watchfulness of thoughts (nepsis).
